Turning Polyurethane Waste into Value
At Purtiso, we convert industrial and end-of-life polyurethane waste into high-value chemical building blocks via our patented PUR2ISO™ process, enabling profitable circularity and resource independence.
From lab innovation to industrial reality
Purtiso pioneers as spin-off from KU Leuven the recycling of polyurethane (PU) waste through its patented chemical recycling technologies. The company’s mission is to unlock value from industrial and end-of-life PU waste by converting it into high-value recycled building blocks in a profitable and scalable way.
At the core of Purtiso’s operations lies its breakthrough PUR²ISO™ process. The technology enables near-quantitative recovery of virgin-quality polyol and isocyanate from PU waste without the need for a phosgenation step. This innovation allows for modular, safe, and profitable recycling hubs that can operate close to PU waste sources, drastically reducing logistics, costs, and carbon impact.

Our Technology: PUR2ISO™
A modular process that turns polyurethane waste into virgin-quality molecular building blocks.
Purtiso’s patented PUR2ISO™ technology converts polyurethane waste into its original polyol and isocyanate molecular building blocks without the need for phosgenation.
While optimized for flexible PU foams, the PUR2ISO™ process can handle all major PU waste streams, including TDI- and MDI-based flexible, rigid, and PIR foams, as well as polyester polyol-based PU materials. This makes it one of the first truly universal solutions for chemical PU recycling and well-suited for mixed PU waste streams.
The process achieves near-quantitative recovery of polyol and isocyanate of virgin quality that can re-enter PU production with up to 100% replacement rates, which has been independently verified by industry partners
Designed for modular, continuous operation, PUR2ISO™ enables cost-efficient circularity at industrial scale.
Unlocking Value from PU Waste
Purtiso collaborates with industrial partners and technology investors to accelerate the industrial rollout of its PUR2ISO™ process. Developing the pilot phase at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus marks a key milestone towards industrial implementation.
