The PUR2ISO™ Platform

Turning Polyurethane Waste into Polyol and Isocyanate

The PUR2ISO™ Process

PUR2ISO™ is Purtiso’s patented chemical recycling process that converts polyurethane waste cost-efficiently into its original polyol and isocyanate building blocks without the need for phosgenation.

Developed at KU Leuven, the technology enables near-complete recovery of the high-value building blocks in virgin-grade quality, independently verified by industry partners to be suitable for direct reuse in polyurethane production in up to 100% replacement rates.

While the PUR2ISO™ process can in principle handle all major PU waste streams, including flexible, rigid, PIR, and elastomers, it is optimally suited for flexible PU foams. The resulting recycled building blocks offer a significant reduction in CO₂ footprint compared to the production of virgin materials.

Development & Industrial Readiness

The PUR2ISO™ process has been validated at bench scale (TRL 4–5) and is now being prepared for pilot-scale implementation . Product quality has been independently verified by industrial partners, confirming full equivalence to virgin feedstocks.

Because the process is entirely non-phosgene, it can be safely deployed as a modular recycling unit within existing polyurethane production sites. This enables PU producers to convert their own industrial waste into virgin-quality polyol and isocyanate, creating a closed-loop source of circular feedstock.

The upcoming pilot phase will demonstrate continuous operation and process integration, paving the way for commercial deployment together with strategic partners. Purtiso welcomes collaboration with polyurethane producers and technology investors interested in joining the pilot program and shaping the first industrial applications of the PUR2ISO™ process.
